Visit the Isle of Jura

Want to tick another Scottish island off your list while on Islay? Our friends at Isle of Jura have a wealth of information about visiting Jura and staying there.

Isle of Jura - Camella Crafts

It’s easy to get the ferry from Islay to Jura (just ten minutes) and there’s plenty to see and do in just half a day, though we recommend a day. If you want to stay longer, visit their ‘Accommodation on Jura’ section for the best cottages, self catering, B&B and hotel options.

Their ‘Eat and Drink’ page has all the information on where to eat and drink, with the latest opening times.

Isle of Jura wildlife boat trip

Head to isleofjura.scot/dayitinerary. We recommend:

Morning

Morning ferry from Port Askaig to Feolin (takes 10 minutes)

Drive to Craighouse taking in the scenery and your guaranteed spotting of deer (the drive takes 20 minutes)

Explore Craighouse – around two hours

Have a coffee and enjoy tea, Deer Island Rum and Whisky Island Gallery

Take a wildlife boat tour with Jura Boat Tours/tasting at Jura Whisky Distillery

Lunch at The Antlers or Jura Hotel

Isle of Jura - Paps of Jura

Afternoon

Hiking and scenery (around four hours)

Consider a hike to the summit of one of the Paps of Jura for panoramic views or take a shorter walk along the coastline. You can find a good, easy walk along a track at Tarbert. The route takes you to the inlet loch, so technically you can say you went to the uninhabited wild side of Jura on the west coast of the island!

Enjoy the scenery and wildlife, including the red deer that roam the island - and why not take part in a guided tour; they’re run by local Jura experts.

Evening: North End

Isle of Jura - Lussa Gin bottle

If time allows, drive north to Ardlussa to visit the Lussa Gin distillery.

Consider a final stop at Inverlussa Bay before returning to the ferry at Feolin.
